About Me
Passionate about the intersection of technology, research, and social impact
My Journey
Ebunoluwa (Ebun) Makinde is a social impact innovator, AI and computational biology researcher, education consultant, and emerging technology leader dedicated to shaping the future of science, education, and equity in technology.
In 2022, at just 18 years old, Ebun founded While She is True, a nonprofit organization that empowers, educates, and encourages girls aged 8–15 to explore technology through free coding programs, mentorship, and resources. Sparked by her own experiences as one of the few women in her high school computer science classes, she envisioned a space where young girls could access opportunities and thrive in STEM. Since its founding, While She is True has reached over 100 girls across three Canadian provinces, three countries, and two continents, inspiring the next generation of technologists and changemakers.
Ebun graduated from the University of Calgary with First Class Honours in Computer Science and is now pursuing her Master's degree in Computer Science at the same institution. Her research focuses on developing computational tools at the intersection of biomedicine, genetics, and bioinformatics, harnessing artificial intelligence to address pressing challenges in healthcare and the life sciences. Her academic journey includes award-winning projects, such as her contributions to the iGEM UCalgary team, which won a Gold Medal and the Best Sustainable Development Impact Award among 346 international teams at the 2022 iGEM competition in Paris, France. Also, winning Best Oral Presentation at the ICCBB 2024 in Kytoto, Japan.
Beyond research, Ebun is deeply passionate about technology's potential to transform lives and industries. Through her consulting practice, she offers curriculum consulting, teaches individuals, organizations, and professionals how to leverage digital tools, AI, and automation, and builds computational solutions that advance productivity and innovation.
Rooted in her faith, Ebun draws strength and identity from Ephesians 2:10, which inspires her belief that every person is a "portfolio of magnificence" created for purpose. A gospel songwriter and worship minister-in-training, she has written over 100 original songs and is preparing to release her debut single in 2026.
Looking ahead, she is building her upcoming firm, WIMTAN, which will design custom computational tools for biotechnology, life sciences, and health science companies to accelerate innovation and solve global challenges.
