My name is Ebunoluwa (but you can call me Ebun), and I'm all about making a positive impact in the world! I'm an innovator in social impact, a researcher in AI and computational biology, and I love exploring emerging technologies that can change the game in science, education, and tech equity.
Back in 2022, when I was just 18, I started a nonprofit called While She is True. It's a space where girls aged 8–15 can dive into the world of technology through free coding programs, mentorship, and awesome resources. My own journey in high school, where I was often one of the few girls in computer science classes, inspired me to create a welcoming environment for young girls to explore STEM. Since we launched, we've already reached over 100 girls across three Canadian provinces, three countries, and two continents! I'm so proud to help inspire the next generation of technologists and changemakers.
I graduated from the University of Calgary with First Class Honours in Computer Science, and I'm now working on my Master's degree there too! My research is focused on developing cool computational tools at the intersection of biomedicine, genetics, and bioinformatics. I'm passionate about harnessing AI to tackle some of the big challenges we face in healthcare and life sciences. I've had the privilege to work on award-winning projects with the iGEM UCalgary team, which won a Gold Medal and the Best Sustainable Development Impact Award among 346 teams at the 2022 iGEM competition in Paris. I've even presented internationally, co-authoring a presentation that snagged a Best Presentation Award at the ICCBB 2024 Conference in Kyoto, Japan! It's been such a thrilling ride.
When I'm not immersed in research, you'll find me excitedly teaching others how to make the most out of digital tools, AI, and automation through my consulting practice. I love helping individuals and organizations build custom computational solutions that boost productivity and ignite innovation.
My faith is a huge part of my life. I draw a lot of strength and identity from Ephesians 2:10, which reminds me that we are all "portfolios of magnificence" created with purpose. Since I was 16, I've been active in ministry leadership at my home churches in Winnipeg and Calgary, as well as within my campus Christian community and local choir. I'm also a gospel songwriter and worship minister-in-training, having written over 100 original songs! I'm buzzing with excitement as I prepare to release my debut single, "Oba ta ori," in 2026.
Creativity is a driving force for me, whether it's through music, spoken word poetry, playwriting, or storytelling. Outside of all that, I love traveling, discovering new cuisines, and getting lost in the world of K-dramas.
Looking ahead, I'm in the process of building my consulting firm, WIMTAN, which will create custom computational tools for biotechnology, life sciences, and health science companies. My goal is to accelerate innovation and tackle global challenges. Buckle up; it's going to be an exciting journey!
